We went out to the latest incarnation of Universoul a few weeks ago. A wonderful, high energy, exuberant production that was entertaining without too much fluff (although there was just a little of that to cover some prop changes). I got news this afternoon on the death of Jimmy James Plott, famous clown and ringmaster for the Clyde Beatty and Cole Bros circus for many years.

The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers "Maryknoll Magazine" did an article on Jimmy James and other clowns with Brother Frank Dolphin, M.M. the e…

Here's a hypothetical situation: A person creates a routine which he performers for many years on circus and other venues. One day someone comes along and put the routine in writing in script form and sends it out to other clowns, but does not give the creator credit for the routine. People receiving the script think that the writer is the creator of the routine. My understanding is that once it is in writing, with no credit, it's consider now "Public Domain."
Similar thing is happening to me n…

My adventures have lead me back to the town of Brattleboro. I have been gigging and training since I made it back from New york. It has been a while since I added anything. It has been a tough year for me on many fronts. As a circus educator, I've learned of the passing of Loraine Lauzon and William Prendregrast. Loraine was the circus historian and circus arts and crafts volunteer for the Berkshire Childrens' Circus for many years and for the six years I was the artistic director and head coach of this program, my dear friend. Bill was our calliope player on the midway using our home built air powered, 24 whistle instrum…

Circus Flora closed Sunday night with the final performance of 'Medrano', a recreation of Paris at the end of the 19th century. Thankfully, the story line took a back seat to the action in the ring. The audience response was enthusiastic and they did good business during the run.

The O.C. Super Fair is coming around again. This year the fair will run from July 10 to August 9, 2009. The theme is “Think Big.” And I am happy to say that I’ll be back for another season. I am not sure how things will go, since these time around it’ll be a whole new fair, including new buildings and exhibitions.
Weird Al will have his own exhibit, which promises to be the most amazing journey through Al’s brain you’ll ever experience.
I am hopeful that I’ll continue to be part of the clown p…
